Twilight Series

Only Forward - Michael Marshall Smith

The Angel's Game - Carlos Zuis Zafon

Just as good as his previous book...that and more...

1 Question stays with you throughouth the beginning to the middle of the book - Is the mystrious man a Vampire? well that was my question that then they started to have "meetings" in the day time - so there goes the Vampire theory.

Fabulously written...very descriptive - you can imagine the big old manager at the Newspaper - you can imagine the croocks for whom the books was written for in under a hidden name.

You can imagine his life when Isabella moved in....could you feel the attraction? How hard Isabella worked to attain adulthood...why is she looking for his undivided attention? Does she love him, or love his work?

The old Tower house where they live... you can imagine the cobblestones underfoot... the drinks in the cafe's and the bookshop where he "grew-up" with the bookseller's son hiding behind some partition his face always only seen at a weird angle...the portrait of a young man caught in his fathers shadow...but too pathetic to stand up for himself. You can see the bookseller aging, glaring watery-eyed at his son....as the last of his energy runs away slowly...

The plans being put into place to help the bookseller to move on to the next life in peace...

The tram scuttling along the pavement over hills and into dead streets... with the writers face clamped against a dirty tram window...his eyes looking out but seeing nothing...

One of the most impressive piece of narritive in this book would be the part where the David Martin goes to see the lawyer to find out about the Tower House...where he looked up at the portrait of the lawyer's deceased father...you could almost feel the painting talk to you..

Isabella's good coffee and cigars.....

The scene where Daniel's love drowns herself and she is glyding below the surface of the ice and smiling at her.

The end is a bitter twist - you put the book down and you hunger for another chapter, another page - but in all fairness the book has gone full circle - but its not explained where & when and why? Why the boss? What happens to him now? Did he made DM go mad, to kill his love and then give him back his love? Its a weird book.

What about the stuffed dolls? Why was Daniels' Doll not finished?

Quotes: (in my own words)

After Christina got injected with something to calm her down - her eyes lost emotion and glazed over like dull mirrors.

I need to go to Barcelona....

Black Curse, White Witch

Entertaining little witch... I really enjoyed it. The little pixie is terribly irritating with his dirty f*cking mouth...but the rest was enjoyable.

I enjoyed the witch & the vampire living together... pity they didn't get it on...as they were well into each other!

Otherall a really good ready overall - I will def read more of these books.

The Reader

Very well written, smart, witty.....makes you think.

The best bit about the book was the way they went on holiday with their bicycles - riding about - and as they ride about you can imagine Germany...the green trees next to the roads, the birds flying about, a river...flowers... you can imagine two lovers riding side by side smiling in the wind with hair billowing about them - almost freezing them in forever....

The most unbelievable part was that when she left him - he just went on with his life to the point where they met again in Court and he felt nothing not a thing... how is that possible? How could he cut himself off so completely? That part wasn't explained and was a bit far fetched... but she was extremely rude to him...so maybe he used all his "mild hatred" for her and all the hurt she caused him to build a cage around his love for her and to eventually suffocate the love and to force himself to forget everything.

The Court trial was amazing... you'd think otherwise when you start reading it, but it was so well written... you could imagine the defendant sitting hunched...listening not listening...arguing a point or merely ignoring proceedings and staring out the window. You can also imagine the now grown up boy...with his pencil in hand making notes for his fellow student... his eyes on the back of her head...burning into her soul...

It had a terrible ending...but you can see why she did what she did? He didn't love her anymore even though she never stopped loving him...till the end... It was a sad tragic end...

NOW he'll never forget her....everything she was will be etched in his soul....painted on his mind - if they had to have written a sequel - he' d probably go mad with the thoughts of her haunting him and either run away or commit suicide.
